Guitar Under $130 / £110 – Donner DTC-100 Review

Review
A few weeks back Donner sent over one of their telecaster style guitars for me to review. Now that I’ve had it a for a while and got a good feel for it here’s my take on it.

For those curious – as per YT guidelines as I received the guitar for review I have to mark the video as ‘paid promotion’ but the views are my own and independent, and Donner had no editorial input on this video. Let’s dig into the guitar!

It’s a budget guitar aimed at beginners and overall holds up very well for the price point it’s at. Compared to starter guitars I saw about 10-15 years ago the lower end instruments have come a long way. Considering the price of the guitar and the target market I have very little negative to say about the guitar beyond it needed a good set up out of the box and the frets being a bit scratchy. Though that’s easily solved with a quick buff with some wire wool and masking tape.

The guitar is a solid build, has a good weight to it, and has been finished nicely with a smooth neck and frets that are flush to the edge of the neck. The pickups sound decent for the price and is perfectly serviceable as a first guitar. So far the tuners are holding well and not slipping.

The added bonus of a lightly padded case as well as an instrument cable and strap is a nice addition. It also comes with the allen keys needed to adjust the saddle height and truss rod. To move the saddles back and forth on the bridge it requires a standard cross head screwdriver.

All in all it is a solid budget instrument that feels nice to play for the price and I’m pleasantly surprised! I’ll be keeping hold of it as a single coil twangy style guitar as all the rest of mine are loaded with hum buckers.

I took my prices direct from the US/EU/UK websites. They do seem to fluctuate a bit so keep an eye on them. There also seems to be a bit of difference between Donner’s Amazon shops and their direct websites.

I’m pretty new to gear reviewing so let me know how to improve. Are there certain things you want to know more about, or parts of the guitar you want to see close ups of? Let me know so I can make them better in the future!
