This lick will be in the key of A and the notes for this guitar lick come out of the A bar chord on the 5th fret.

This riff will use a combination of slides, double stops, hammer on’s and has an overall triplet feel.

A triples is when you have 3 notes per beat and counted 1-trip-let, 2-trip-let, 3-trip-let, 4-trip-let.

What’s great about a riff like this is that it can be heard on many Chuck Berry songs from Johnny B. Goode to Roll Over Beethoven, and Carol.

This isn’t a tutorial of how to play the entire intro to Johnny B. Goode, but it’s a riff that you hear played on many Chuck Berry songs such as Johnny B. Goode to Roll Over Beethoven, and Carol.

Although I am playing this in the key of A major, to play in the original key that Chuck Berry uses in Johnny B. Goode simply slide up one fret to play in the key of Bb.

Memorize it so you can speed it up and rock it out.
