In this guitar lesson video series, we will take an in-depth look at the always ripping Skid Row and their hit power ballad “I Remember You”.

In the first I Remember You guitar lesson below, we will be taking a look at the main acoustic riffs that open the song and that also makes up a majority of the verse.

The riff is based around just two simple chords but is made much more difficult by some agile fills thrown in between the changes that requires a pretty accurate picking touch.

If you follow the picking indications that I demonstrate in the video, everything will be much easier. The key is to make the picking of those fills as economical as possible.

Of course there is the issue of having to do hammer-ons and pulls-offs on an acoustic guitar, but as long your guitar is set up well it shouldn’t be much of a problem.

If you do have a problem with any of the fills, simply isolate it and practice it by itself over and over again while staying in rhythm. That kind of detailed practice is how you can overcome most technical difficulties on the guitar.

In the second lesson we will cover all the heavy guitar riffs found in the rest of the song. A lot of the guitar riffs move around quite a bit and have a bunch of fills as well. So even though it is rhythm guitar work, it is still kept very interesting but not too challenging technically.

In the third and final video lesson, I will tackle that amazing guitar solo note-for-note. There are some really great and unusual guitar licks in this one so make sure you follow along phrase-by-phrase just like I teach it.

There is also a quick outro solo which I will cover at the end of the third video. It contains a great repeated legato lick to help build up your frethand chops.

Hope you guys enjoy learning this great 80’s power ballad classic by one of my favorite bands of that era. 🙂
