In this Hit Me With Your Best Shot guitar lesson video, I will show you how to play all of this Pat Benatar classic note-for-note.

The tuning is standard tuning.

Guitarist Neil Geraldo wrote many great guitar parts for Pat Benatar and other artists. Some of these can be pretty challenging to play including his solo for “Hit Me With Your Best Shot”.

The main chord progressions are pretty simple to play for both the verse and chorus sections.

Within the second verse there is a quick little guitar lick that is easy to miss if you don’t pay attention.

However, the real star of the show is the guitar solo. Neil Geraldo starts the solo with probably the most difficult lick of the song. It can be hard to perform that lick accurately jumping straight from a rhythm guitar part to alternate picking an arpeggio across the top three strings.

After that lick, he jumps down into a lower register then starts to work his way back up with a really cool legato lick.

Geraldo has a knack for creating guitar licks that are probably a little bit different than what you would commonly see from a rock guitarist. These licks always fit the song perfectly though and become an integral part of the whole track.

After the solo, there is a arpeggiated version of the verse which moves around pretty quickly as well. This is a great exercise in controlling the sound of the notes with pick hand muting.

After that verse we reach the final chorus which is altered eventually to bring the song to a close.

The very end has a free-time section with some half-steps bends and an E7 chord.

I hope you guys enjoy taking a crack at all of Neil Geraldo’s really cool guitar parts for this classic song! #hitmewithyourbestshotguitarlesson #patbenatar #guitarcovers
