In this Jack and Diane guitar lesson video, I will show you how to play this mostly acoustic based hit from John Cougar Mellencamp.

For some reason, Mellencamp’s songs always remind me of the summertime when I was a kid. Back when MTV was playing his music constantly back in the early to mid-eighties. It is a nice memory.

In any case, Jack and Diane has some nice chord work that should be pretty easy for any intermediate level guitarist or above.

There is an electric guitar intro as well, and I will show you how to play that, but it will be on acoustic guitar.

The tuning is standard tuning E A D G B E.

After the big electric guitar intro, the verse section appears with basic triad shapes being played on strings 1-3. We then move to a transition riff that uses triads in a lower register.

The chord section is very similar to the verse. The slight differences require you to pay attention during this part of the video lesson in order to get the song right.

I will be going through each section of the song in the order that it appears in the original recording.

Enjoy! #jackanddianeguitarlesson #johncougarmellencamp #guitarcovers
