Soloing over chord changes can seem a daunting task, especially if the changes are frequent and unconventional.

But we have to start somewhere. The key thing is to break it all down into the smallest practical steps possible. That’s what I aim to help you do throughout this series of lessons. By the end of the series you should have a clear process in your mind for soloing over any sequence of chords that may be thrown at you.

In this lesson we learn about the two main types of chord change you’re likely to solo over and the concept of note selection within a scale. We then move on to building simple phrases over 2 chords – C major and F major (the 1 and 4 chords of C major).
