“The Chain” by Fleetwood Mac: Guitar Arrangement & Lesson

Electric
I love all eras of Fleetwood Mac – the early Peter Green blues stuff, as well as the syrupy 70s stuff. Lindsey Buckingham’s playing, songwriting, and arranging on “The Chain” is absolutely brilliant. The tricky fingerstyle guitars, 4 part vocal harmonies, rhythmic shifts, syncopations, and masterful engineering of this classic tune make it most worthy of some practice!

Classic Rock Trivia: the verse and chorus of this song were recorded completely separately and then spliced together in the studio. The story goes that they had finished the song, and a month before the record release Buckingham decided he didn’t like the verse. They cut the tape, and edited in what we now know as the verse. Studio magic!
