Note for note breakdown of the guitar solo to Steely Dan’s “Kid Charlemagne”. This jazz-rock fusion solo was done by the great Larry Carlton on the Royal Scam album. It was #80 of Rolling Stone’s Top 100 Guitar Solos of all-time. It deserves to be higher on the list!
I break it down by first playing through a demo at normal speed, then at half-speed (for players who don’t need the whole note-for-note transcription this is a huge time-saver), and then I go through each section in 100% detail – note for note.
I’m using my 335 on this one in Larry Carlton’s (Mr. 335) honor!
