Originally written and performed by Leonard Cohen, “Hallelujah” remains one of the most popular and powerful songs of the last century. In this step-by-step guitar lesson, we’ll be learning Jeff Buckley’s beautiful fingerstyle version.
The great thing about this song is that you only need to learn one verse and one chorus, since the rest of the song repeats those two sections. To get as close as possible to the original, you’ll want to use a capo to play this song. So even though the song is in the key of C, we’ll be using chords from the key of G major with our capo placed on the 5th fret.
Make sure you download the PDF sheet music for this version of “Hallelujah”. It may take you some time to get down the coordination to play the entire piece all the way through. Take your time and break the song down into digestible chunks. With some consistent practice, you’ll have this entire tune down in no time!
