I’ve seen these miniature Les Pauls (Pee Wee) and Flying Vs (Vee Wee)floating around for some time now and I’ve always been curious if these are any good or if they are worth upgrading with better parts. They always seem to sell fast and for good money (even in a no-reserve auction on ebay! – not to mention the Zakk Wylde versions!) Thanks to my Patreon supporters we are finally able to find out!

These guitars have a rosewood fretboard and ?Mahogany? body and neck according to the Gibson Representative I spoke with though I’m not real sure if that is correct or not. The Scale Length is 19.5″ compared to a normal 24.75″ scale length of a traditional Les Paul. It has an intonatable wraptail piece, with cheap tuners and what I believe is a 700T epiphone pickup.

These were marketed towards children, but people seem to like to have these guitars around as decoration as well. They are definitely a novelty item. Tuning stability is terrible and with regular gauge strings, you notes are also bent sharp just by fretting the note. Epiphone suggests tuning these guitars to GCFA#DG to combat that. However, I don’t want to tune the guitar 3 steps up because nothing will sound the same then. I have heard you can simply put a heavy 12 or 13 gauge string on these to use them in standard tuning and without the notes bending out of tune. Pair that with some real tuners and you might have a great playing guitar!

These came with a mini amp as well. This one has a Fender Tweed Styled amp. It is a 1w solid state amp that has a volume and tone control with a clean and dirty channel. The amp can be used with a 9v battery or with a power supply (not included.) This amp also has an input for your headphones. This amp is actually kind of decent in a ‘cheap guitar for blues tone’ kind of way. Great for practicing and that is just about it.

You can hear how this one sounds in this video and judge for yourself – but in the next video I’m going to deck this thing out with expensive vintage Gibson parts to see if it is even worth upgrading these guitars or not!
