Palm Mute Strumming Video: https://youtu.be/fDJXagDGhIA

I chose this song for this week’s request tutorial because I have not yet discussed the shuffle feel in an online guitar lesson. Put simply, this is a different rhythmic feel in which we have a long down strum and a quicker up strum to create that lazy, laid back vibe.

I also go through the introduction (with tabs) which has some double stops and legato slides. Take your time with this and make sure that you keep pressing into the strings as you slide.

I’m using a capo for this on the fourth fret to keep it open chords. Look out for the D/F# in the bridge progression. If you can’t get your thumb over the top of the neck or play the chord with a different fingering, a normal D chord will work too.

The strumming patterns take a little getting used to as they are either using the shuffle rhythm in the strumming hand or we are accenting beats 2 and 4 with a rest on beats 1 and 3. To get the rest make sure you stop the strings ringing in between the strums by muting with the strumming hand.

If you need guidance on anything in the video, I would suggest you check out my YouTube Guitarist’s Survival Guide which has loads of ideas and concepts for beginner guitarists.

PLEASE give me a thumbs up if you enjoyed the video, and don’t forget to comment with your song requests and whether there’s anything I can do to improve the videos for you.

See you soon.
