A guitar lesson on triads. What they are and some ways you can play them on guitar. Link to handout: http://www.rynaylorguitar.com/guitar-lesson/triads-intro
Triads are essential for growing as a guitarist. They are chords in their purest form. TRI- referring to 3 – a 3-note chord. Those three elements are a Root (that note which names the chord and upon which we build the triad) a 3rd (whether that be a major 3rd or minor 3rd) and a 5th (which can be perfect, diminished or augmented). Combining these three elements in different combinations produces different triads.
I’ll show you a number of different triad shapes, with a focus on shapes across strings 1-3. We will cover the three inversions of both a major and minor triad. Following that I’ll show you how we can define the chords in a major key by playing all the tchords that are created by playing 3-note triads up the string set.
