Guitar Lesson | HOW TO PRACTICE GUITAR | Structured practice regimen for intermediate guitarists

Intermediate
Yeah, I know. This isn’t the normal YouTube Lesson. You aren’t going to learn the “4 magical notes to make your guitar teacher jealous” or ideas about ‘scales are evil’ or that ‘patterns and music theory don’t work’. I’m not going to teach you how to ‘feel’ it, or that ‘our heroes didn’t practice’. Why did you ever believe all that? Seriously. Moving on…

If you are here, you know that is all BS. Hasn’t worked, eh? Of course not.

Learning the guitar is hard work. But you can learn how to practice the right way. Yes, it takes time.

Good: 30 min to 1 hour a day, 5 days a week

Lower Intermediate: 1 to 2 hours a day

Upper Intermediate: 3 to 4 hours a day

Pro Curious: 4-6 hours a day

Pro Certain: 8-12 hours a day

You will notice these numbers are no different than any other professional disciplines.

What? I have to play guitar 8 hours a day to play at a pro level??? Uh – yeah.

After studying guitar for 31 years, and 4 to 10 hours a day – I can tell you – THERE ARE NO SHORTCUTS OR SECRETS. I have played over 4000 professional gigs and am a college guitar professor. I’ve opened for Willie Nelson and REO Speedwagon. I support my wife and 7 children by playing the guitar.
