Easiest Fingerpicking and Musical- for Beginners & Intermediate.
If you’ve wanted to learn how to fingerpick the Sound of Silence by Simon and Garfunkel, you might have been taken back at the complexity of this song and decided to give up. Firstly- most if not all the lessons on YouTube require full chords (even the beginner hostile F barre chord) along with multiple picking patterns that are as confusing as Chinese Algebra.
But in this lesson and arrangement, I have taken out all the difficult chords, as all that’s needed at most are a few 2 fingered chords, along with a couple of 1 fingered chords and even a 0 (zero) finger chord (that’s right, no pressing anything on the fretboard). And if that wasn’t simple enough, only 2 fingers are needed on the right hand. But the right hand gets even easier as two of the strings we pluck for every chord doesn’t change throughout the entire song (only the bass note strings change).
All this easily makes this fingerstyle arrangement of The Sound of Silence simply the easiest on the internet.

Now I know you are probably thinking…. “this is probably going to sound like” a kindergarten nursery rhyme, right?”
Well, that’s a big NO, as these chords actually introduce some more melodic sophistication to Sound of Silence that is totally in the spirit and tonal center of the song.
My name is Bob Harris and I approve of this version, not only because it sounds good but now people who are not as advanced (yet!) on the guitar can play this song.
