In this N.I.B. guitar lesson video, I will show you how to play this amazing song off of Black Sabbath’s debut album in it’s entirety.

The tuning is standard tuning. E A D G B E.

The minute and second markers I mention throughout the video lesson are based of the original North America edition of the album where N.I.B. is part of a longer track called “Wasp / Behind the Wall of Sleep / Bassically / N.I.B.”.

Tony Iommi created some catchy riffs for this one. One signature of Tony’s style is his love of playing power chords with a 6th string root very high up on the fretboard. This gives these chords a bit of a darker sound which is probably what he was going for.

In between the main power chord riff, Tony throws in a lot of fills. These fills are pretty repetitive, so it won’t take very long to memorize what he is doing.

I will go through each section of the song in the order that it appears on the original recording.

I will also cover Tony’s first solo ‘mainly’ note-for-note. There are some parts of the solo that contain two completely separate guitar solos running at the same time. This is yet another signature element of Tony’s recording style. These aren’t harmonized guitar solos either, they are similar, but, completely separate from one another.

So obviously, it wouldn’t be possible to play both solos at the same time. For the first solo, I will demonstrate it note-for-note where there is one guitar soloing only, and for the duo parts, I will approximate it sort of like how Tony plays it live.

For the second solo, I will demonstrate the beginning, which is similar to the first solo, but then just run through the scale forms he is using instead of going through it note-for-note. #NIBguitarlesson #blacksabbath #guitarcovers

Have fun with this one guys!
