In this guitar tutorial I go through the chord progressions for the three different sections in the song, and go through the picking part in detail. There were a couple of spots where I’m not entirely sure what the picking/chord is, but the version I have transcribed works perfectly with the song.
The fingerstyle picking pattern has a similar feel throughout the song. The picking hand thumb is pumping on the bass note of the chord on the beat, and the index and middle fingers pick two strings at the same time on the upbeats. The fingers alternate between different string pairs, which can be seen in the video and the accompanying tab.
There’s a nice little move in the chord progressions up to a Dadd11 chord, which I always like to use in place of a standard D chord. This looks like a open C chord but the fingers move up two frets so the bass note on the A string is now a D. With the open G string still ringing it creates a beautiful clash between the G and the F# fretted on the D string at the 4th fret.
