In this video guitar lesson series, we are going to take an in-depth look at how to play all the chords and guitar solos in the monster hit power ballad, “Every Rose Has It’s Thorn” by Poison.
This Every Rose Has It’s Thorn guitar lesson will show you note-for-note all of guitarist C.C. Deville’s tasteful and melodic solos for this 80’s classic.
In the first video lesson I will show you all the guitar chords and chord progressions used throughout the song. Most of this is acoustic based and very simple to play, but I will also show you the electric guitar parts used during the chorus as well.
The real fun begins in the second video lesson where I will show you note-for-note how to play all three of C.C. Deville’s solos!
The intro solo is very blues based with some unison bends and quick legato licks.
The main solo contains a little bit more flash. It starts with a long bend that slides into another note. After that we have some very melodic musical phrases that resolve into a fast descending legato phrase. From there he goes into a simple melody containing many bar dives.
After this section C.C. Deville caps off the solo with a fast alternate picking lick straight out of the 80’s shredder scene. The hardest part of this lick is getting it started. After that initial beginning, you will then come upon a repeated pattern that is more easy to understand and get under your fingers. I suggest you practice the opening few notes by themselves first and practice the pattern by itself as well before putting them together. I will show you in the lesson where the pattern begins and how to play it.
I will then finish out the second video lesson by demonstrating how to play the outro solo.
I hope you guys enjoy learning this 80’s classic!
