A little over a year ago, Amazon started selling these Brian May style guitars for around $190. They are made over in Vietnam. Amazon lists the company as IVY, but the guitar says IYV on it.
NOTE: I have seen some folks buying these, and then reselling them trying to make a hefty profit. Don’t pay their ridiculous prices. If you can’t afford a BMG, go to Amazon and get one of these when they are available….mod it and rock it till you CAN get a BMG. Live your dream.
For the price, it’s a very good guitar. I bought it to see what the fuss was about, and to use it as a possible BMG-style guitar to mod. Of course there are a few small cosmetic flaws, and the box it came in could have been bigger, and the electronics could be better….(The pickguard is BLEH!) But I’m really…REALLY happy with this. Especially for the price.
I have no idea how long these will be for sale…so if you are in the market for a guitar that resembles the Red Special, and don’t have the money to buy a BMG, then this would be a great alternative.
