1. The first idea is to take any open chord, and move it around to see what kinds of sounds you can create. Don’t let theory or logic get in the way in the beginning stages, instead, allow yourself to listen to the sounds and see what YOU think about them. Some will sound like they “fit”, and others will clash (but that’s not always a bad thing.
2. Next, we add a new note called the “9th” or “2nd” to the chord and explore some of the unique sounds we get with this chord.
3. Next, we take a 2 note idea and move it around, exploring the sounds we get with that as well.
In the beginning of the video, you will see Steve uses all of these ideas together, so don’t be afraid to explore different chords and shapes at the same time.
