The easiest way to do this is to start with a chord, and then move that entire shape one or two steps up or down the neck. You can play around with the rhythm and even throw in some ghost notes if you’d like.
If you want to use a bluesy rock type of sound, you can even go as far as three frets up or down. Once you get this down, you can even play with using the chromatic notes, that is, playing with every half step.
You can even strip it all down with just a power chord and get some metal sounds if you turn up the gain. Try this exercise and you’d be surprised at how fun this simple technique is.
